Here are the German-spoken classics I liked most of all:

The perfume by Patrick Süskind
The Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann
Night Train to Lisbon by Pascal Mercier

And the English ones:

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

read them, if you did not so far. They are really good.
