A D1 form is the one which most people use to apply for a provisional (or any other license for that matter).

It's quite straightforward if you read it carefully.. get someone to check over it after you have completed it.

Oh, and pick up a couple of copies, because you are guaranteed to make a mistake on at least one. :p:

Your provisional should take about 4/5 days to arrive after you have sent off the application form (D1).

Good luck!
Presumably, if they tell you it can be used to apply for a provisional licence, then it can.

4/5 days?! The DVLA says "anything up to 6 weeks". Mine took about 2.

Yeah, mine arrived in 3 days i think. My mum's a driving instructor, and she has never known anyone who applied and it took longer than 10 days to arrive, she tells me. :p:

OK cool thanks. I thought most people apply online? But she said because I'd already tried applying online once or something, that I will have to get the form instead so just wanted to make sure. Thanks for your help

I applied with a paper form.

Thanks for the reassurance. I just don't want my application to get messed up. Will head down to the post office tomorrow

I did the same. I applied online, however I forgot to send the photo within the required twenty-one days. So they sent me a D1 form and a pre-paid envelope to a seperate address (not the one the normal D1 forms go to). I filled it in and sent it off last week, and it arrived today!
