Hi,

Since March 2018 I've been having health problems that prevent me from functioning properly. It has impacted my life negatively in multiple ways. I've been to several GP's and specialists, but they either don't take me seriously or they simply don't know what is wrong.

That's why i wanna try to ask for advice online. I know i could ask here, but in my experience people mostly tend to say "go to your GP" (lol). So i was wondering: do any of you have experience with medical forums? Is there any you would recommend?

Thanks

... "go to your GP"...
That's the right advice though.

Would you really trust a bunch of strangers behind a screen with no verfication of their qualifications or (if they pose as patients / someone with knowledge into the condition) actually who they say they are?

There's a whole bunch of med students and doctors on TSR, it's simply not ethical for us to give medical advice without a full history and examination.

they either don't take me seriously or they simply don't know what is wron
Maybe it's time to change GP / ask for a second (or third / fourth etc.) opinion from different specialists.

Thanks. I've had 4 GP's and i wanna stay with my current GP since he listens and does take me seriously. I'm not asking to then follow some stranger's advice blindly. Just trying to see if someone has had similar symptoms or if anyone can give me an idea of possible causes. I don't think there is any harm in that.

Sure. There are individual disease websites / forums for that; e.g. for people with fibromyalgia / inflammatory bowel syndrome / dementia etc.

I am sure Google would lead you to them (note they may not be based in the UK, but it doesn't really matter).

They mostly tend to be based around a certain condition or type of condition. My general advice would be to do some googling, find what type of condition seems to fit your symptoms best and find a group that is centered around that (Facebook, reddit and health unlocked can be good places to find groups).
Hopefully they can help give you some guidance on the sorts of things you and your doctor can look into. Just avoid falling into the self diagnosis trap and make sure to run anything by your doctor before trying anying or assessing you have any conditions.

Although the groups are for specific things the people in them have likely gone through a similar confusing process to you and can let you know what ended up finding answers for them.
