Daft tampon issue (guys should probably avoid)

I hope this is in the right forum...

Anyway, I'm 16 and started my period when I was 11. I've used pads all the way and haven't had a problem- but I tried to use tampons a few months ago, thinking it would be more convenient if I wore a skirt etc, but I soon went back to pads.

I'm a virgin, which could be a problem. The first time I tried to put one in, it was fine, but when I tried to take it out, it hurt like hell and really put me off using them. I've never actually managed to put one in since that one time.

The main issue is here, while I don't really mind using pads, is that my boyfriend and I haven't had sex yet, but I'm worried that when we do it's gonna hurt like hell. (I'm pretty sure it'll hurt badly if I can't even get a damn tampon in) It's really putting me off.

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

probably because you're taking them out when they're dry. You only take them out when they need to be changed

Yes as above. You only take them out when its fully ermm... saturated? So use the lowest absorbancy and try it again at the heaviest time of your period. Should be fine

Yes, however this needs to be done before 8 hours due to Toxic Shock Syndrome. (TSS). If you don't feel confident using tampons, then stick to the pads.

Nah, it had been in for nearly the max time when I took it out- no dry bits at all.

If you didn't say that, I wouldn't have looked at this thread.

Yeah get one suited to your flow if you are leaving them in for about 4 hours.

Don't worry, well try not to about the sex issue, sex and tampons are very different, with sex you'll be relaxed and I'm assuming would have done some form of foreplay.

Hmm well that seems really weird to be because if you can get it in, surely you can get it out again, you didn't just "shrink"

rubbish.
Ive kept them in for longer than 8 hours before and nothing happens (i.e. one in at about 8/9pm and then out next morning at 9/10am). I use supers for this reason so i dont need to worry about constantly changing

It will get easier with practice, it probably hurt more because you were anxious and tensed up. Relax, and try again with a lower absorbency.

loool i was about to say the same thing haha

Don't just yank them out - pull them out slowly! If you've put them in properly, you're relaxed, and the tampon is fully saturated, there's absolutely no reason why it should hurt. Just be gentle with yourself.

You know, I knew someone would do that. hehe

This is slightly gross but from personal experience I think maybe the reason it hurt was that the bottom of the tampon got caught on your hymen, that wouldn't happen during sex for obvious reasons.

Hmm, could be. *winces* Thanks for the advice, people who posted.

perhaps trying to use tampons more will make sex hurt less than it may do in future?

and by the way, first-time sex won't necessarily hurt like hell, some girls have noted that it didn't hurt as much for them as they expected, at all...

perhaps have a rummage through previous threads about this, there's bound to be loads.

even if using tampons doesn't help (just an idea), when you do come to have sex then it should only hurt once or a few times, then should be fine! or, from what i hear anyway :P

Well when you have sex you will probably be turned on and therefore naturally lubricated.

With a tampon, I doubt you are turned on :p:.

Are you using the smallest type of tampon? the mini ones? obviously they will be easier to insert than smaller ones. And if you are finding them too uncomfortable, stick to pads until you have maybe lost your virginity and are more used to your vagina being stretched.

I'm only saying what the guidelines are for wearing tampons. Not my fault if 'nothing' happens and you don't follow this rule. 8 hours is the reccommended time for wearing one.
Whether you say it is rubbish or not, is entirely your opinion. Like i said this is the guidelines for using a tampon.

Me neither, a bit disappointed now.

It will feel really weird taking them out for a while, but you get used to it. Keep trying, it's totally worth it.
