Comparison of actions/attitudes theories - psychology

Please help me in summing up what this paragraph is saying in easy to understand terms.
The three theories (two explanations) are contradictory. And it says we don't have a definitive answer as to which is right.

But then it says stuff about different roads leading to the same place - but *contradictory* is not the "same place". Please help
