Hey peeps, i realise this may sound like im being a kill joy but please hear me out

Im 23, have my own social life (i live 10 mins from the uni im going too) and have plenty of mates outside of college and soon to be uni. Do i really have to take part in all this mad cray drinking sex filled orgy parties or can i just go to my lessons when they start, learn, and get a good degree! coz to be honest i dont really feel like i want to do it ?

Hmmmm, can peeps see where i am coming from or just not?!

thanks

Fair enough.
But I think you should give it a chance, might not be like that if you don't want it to. Use the week to make new friends on your course, one can never have enough friends.

I almost gasped when I read the title... I thought you were crazy to suggest such a thing!

But fair enough, if you're not bothered and don't need the social-ness from uni, then of course you don't need to go. ^_^ It's your choice!

Not every Freshers Week has to be a mad crazy drinking/sex-filled orgy / party. It's possible to meet new people in FW without getting smashed off your face every night (and I would suggest that socialising a bit with people from the uni is worth it, even if you decide after 2 weeks that you're happy to focus entirely on your existing social life).

There are events, such as joining sports clubs etc, plus nearly all your best mates will be made during freshers week, or at least it was for me..so you will miss out on quite a bit

First of all, calm down. Fresher's week is not "crazy drinking sex filled orgy parties", it's just that there'll be a fair few parties and people will drink a bit more than normal, and some people might get lucky because inhibitions are lowered due to alcohol, but that one's a big maybe. There'll be plenty of people there who don't want to nearly drown in a pool of vomit on a nightly basis, and perhaps you should make friends with them instead of the complete wasters. And even the complete wasters will have a night in to get to know people better. If you completely exclude yourself from fresher's week then you'll find socialising people from the uni much harder in future, so it's advisable to be at least a little involved.

I refer you to this thread for more reassurance:

Important university things will be in the day - intro seminars and lectures and the like. The evening freshers week activities are really what you're not interested in

Yup, there'll be a fresher's fair during the day time where you sign up for societies etc., and you'll probably have to go to introductory lectures and other things like that.

i will go to all of the stuff in the day time, meet peeps there, sample lectures and that but probs not the stuff in the evening, i do my own things, university for me is just a stepping stone for a job, and i want to keep it that way, but on the otehr hand i can see definatley how other peeps want to socialise, especially seeing as tey are moving home and away from their old friends, so im not trying to knock it, im just saying im trying to keep uni as focused as possible for gettign me a job, im not unsocilable and peeps will find that out when im in class with them! thats what id like ideally anways, what im also worried bout tho is, peeps will start syaing "oh look theres the looser that didnt go to freshers night blah blah blah"! lol i do drink i do go out, but with mates ive had for 10 years or so :d

Yeh and be warned not all of your college friends will be around for life...those made at Uni are much more likely to.
