Completely isolated from society only venturing back into civilisation when you have run out of the nesscaries e.g milk, bread etc. Do ever get the urge to just do that. One of my friends considered it jokingly, doesn't seem such a bad idea. Well I think so, more so now that I see were society is heading. Materialistic, selfish(though not all) being two faults I can think of at the moment.
I would probably live in a tree or a cave, don't ask me why.

Only if my tree/cave had internet connection.

I would do it for like a week then get bored and go back to the world.

Not sure about being a hermit completely but I share the sentiment. I'd be more interested in living in a remote place in a foreign country and being part of the community there. I've also thought about becoming a nun, but I think "escaping from the world" isn't really the right reason...

My uncle lived in Goa for a quite a few years. Just before the monsoons came he would help out with the cannabis harvests and then walk into the mountains with enough food and pot for a good month or two and just get baked in a cave for that period. It seems like fun to me but I wouldn't want to do it for more than a couple of weeks.

sounds good. Society doesn't like people like me ... constantly going against it.

Sometimes I think I could quite happily live like that when I'm fed up, but realistically I know I'd soon get bored.

It would be fun and as you were completely isolated you'd live by your own rules most of the time. Except when back in society..then you'd have to do as your told.

But you wouldn't have anybody to share that with! It would be such a meaningless life. You would have all the hassel of life but without the good points of having friends. That's really weird. I would kill myself, not because I would be so depressed, but because there would be nothing to keep me alive.

I'm not saying you can't have friends, I'm just saying that instead of living in society, you'd just live in isolation most of the time. No rule saying you can't make/have friends or have a job even. Hermits used to be used as gatekeepers in ancient times.

So long as I had my internet connection I'd be quite happy living as a hermit - practically am one anyway! :p:

Yeah I'm pretty much a hermit, assuming TSR doesn't count as socialising...
