Hey everyone, just thought I'd start a new thread for anyone thinking of applying for the BC Language Assistantships in 2020/21!

I'm definitely going to apply for Spain as I'm currently doing a TEFL course in Barcelona and it's amazing. Would love to hear from anyone else going for Spain (or anywhere, tbh!)

Good luck with applications - think they open soonish...

I remember applying for this and putting a insane amount of effort into my application many years ago and they declined my application because my reference sat on her arse and didn't respond to any of the reference requests to support my application. I contacted them saying I have another reference I can use (they didn't tell me she wasn't responding) but they said it's too late. I went through an entire complaint process with them and so many failures were not addressed, I was absolutely fuming.

The process is genuinely dog**** and I will never apply again. Sorry to put a downer on your thread!

Hola!!

I'm going to be applying as part of a compulsory year abroad with my degree. We had a meeting this past week and were told they were opening applications on the 21st October. Will be applying for Spain too!! What regions are you thinking about choosing?

¡Hola! Oh class, totally wish I’d done joint Spanish for my degree (I’m applying as a graduate)! And that’s pretty soon - thanks for letting me know

Currently I’m definitely going for the Balearics, but I’m torn between Cataluña, València, Asturias and Galicia for my other options...need to do more research really! Where are you thinking?

It's a joint degree with French & Professional Education. I know more French but I'm enjoying Spanish so much more

I know that I want to go to mainland Spain as I have family who struggle to travel so it makes it easier for them if they'd like to come out. I'm thinking Murcia for my first choice. My other choices I'm torn too:
Group A: Asturias, Navarra or Extremadura
Group B: Galicia or Castilla-la Mancha
I'd love to choose Cataluña but with studying two languages already - throwing Catalan into the mix might confuse me even more!

Woo!!

Have you sent your application yet?

I decided to change my initial decision on where to apply in Spain and ended up with Valencia as my 1st choice, Extremadura as my 2nd choice and Castilla-la Mancha as my 3rd.

I sent my application on 13th December however still waiting for my manager to submit her reference 🤦🏼*♀️

My first choice is Andalucia, second is Castilla La Mancha and third is Asturias ☺️ not overly fussed though.

Just wish it was a quicker process, I’m so impatient!

I applied on the 7th December and asked one of my university tutors to be my reference. She told me just to email her after I had applied and she sent the reference the next day - I was so surprised as I assumed she'd be mega busy!!

I'm so impatient too!

Hi all! I applied for a position in France, and haven't received any emails yet but just checked the portal and it says that I was shortlisted too Does anyone know what this means really though, as in how sure are we to be a offered a position after being shortlisted? Congrats to everyone else too!

Congrats!! I’m still waiting - mines has been as ‘review’ since 25th Jan. I just want to know if I’ve been shortlisted so fingers crossed!

The website says that once you’re shortlisted the overseas partners will make a decision and you’ll find out if you have a provisional offer by 26th June 2020

Hello, I received an email when I submitted my application telling me my application had been put forward for assessment, but how do I see the status of my application on the portal? On the British Council Applications Portal website I can't seem to see my application anywhere! Thank you.

Going into English teaching is the biggest mistake you will ever make when you find you’re paid badly for the rest of your life.

Ahh hopefully you'll all hear back soon!

If anyone is struggling to see the status bit, what I had to do was go on to the search tab of the portal and make sure to uncheck "Exclude completed tasks"

This thread is discussing an English Language Assistantship abroad and doesn't necessarily mean that we want to go into English teaching in future, but thanks so much for the positivity
