Drinking Alone: Alpha or Lonely?

To put things into perspective, I'm currently on a study year abroad in America. I've made a few friends but the drinking age is 21+ over here and I'm the only one old enough :frown:. I really want to find people to drink with and hit a few bars but wondered what your thoughts would be on a British guy (Southern accent) just going for a drink and perching up on the bar.

Sample applies to heading to a nightclub: would it be sad or actually exert a level of confidence and about you?
I'm of the opinion Insecure people will say sad because they fear people's opinion if they done it themselves. But going for a drink and perching up the bar means you want a drink and don't give two fiddlers fingers what anyone thinks.
There is nothing wrong with drinking alone at the bar.

No one cares anyway.

Plenty of people do it.
