Counselling and psychotherapy training

Hi there,

I want to train as a counsellor/psychotherapist. I know that this is a minefield and I'm clues up about BACP accredited courses and the individual accreditation route/ certificate of proficiency for non Bacp accredited courses.

I am torn between doing a level 4 counselling diploma which is near home or moving away to do a university masters level 7 diploma in counselling and psychotherapy. I wondered if I would have more opportunities by obtaining a masters level diploma rather than a level 4 diploma. I would love to hear from counsellors in practice.

Thanks for your help!

Hi there,

Realistically, job prospects are poor unless you go into private practice. Because ScoPEd is currently being developed (if you haven't already, go away and read about it because I can't succinctly write about it.) I would probably do the level 7 Masters.

I am a therapist but currently not practising. I am doing something else using my Counselling skills.
