hi everyone,

I am wanting to get a grade 9 but I don't really know how to achieve it. I am planning to be a doctor so I need good grade tbh.

for physics: make sure that you can apply every single physics equation, in any rearrangement. Then have a grasp on all definitions, then any complex knowledge (like magnetic flux) after that! scored me a 9!

as for English.... I'm no help there

Would seriously recommend https://www.youtube.com/user/dominicsalles he does mainly every book and poem, especially his context and themes videos. Mr Bruff's ideas are okay but won't help you to excel.

You need to learn band 6 on the mark scheme off by heart https://filestore.aqa.org.uk/sample-...W-MS-JUN17.PDF

Include everything you know about the book in your essays; language, structure and form (even when it's not poetry e.g J+H gothic novella just so you show the examiner you're aware what form its written in)

For context, don't just randomly put in bits of context for extra marks, the most u will get is 4/6, u need to explain how what was happening at the time influenced the author e.g in Jekyll and Hyde drug parties in the 19th century.

Don't bother learning as many quotes as you can, its a waste of time, learn around 5 quotes for each character and theme which you could modify if anything came up.

You don't actually have to put much from the extract in to achieve full marks, as a rule of thumb I'd say one paragraph of fully detailed analysis on a 3-4 word quotation is good enough but you need to make really good points and use a quote you can analyse well. For my GCSE paper 1, I only did 1 paragraph for each extract and got 63/64 marks.

Even though the mark scheme only says one or more perspective for band 6 I'd say you need at least 5. Look on https://genius.com/ a lot of books are on there and people share their interpretations.

If you're below a grade 7 now I'd recommend getting these books https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quotation-B...2716951&sr=8-2 they're enough to get you 23/30 just by themselves and helped me start my revision for English lit as I started out on a grade 3.

Learn every single language technique there is, would research techniques on the AQA ALevel English Language course for AIC or Blood Brothers as this really makes you stand out.

Other people who read this should be made aware of the possible disadvantage of going out of their way to sound a little more sophisticated. As someone who has also achieved quite high for GCSE English literature (154/160 marks), it is slightly unwise as it can lead you down the trap of failing to analyse language well enough. It doesn't always make you stand out but rather ****es off the examiner.

Eduqas's examiners appear to have been particularly miffed by this because more of the cohort that sat their A Level exams probably employed this tactic to try and seem ‘unique’. In the end, the examiners' reports make it clear that ‘[h]ere, and elsewhere in the paper, candidates should be made aware of the limited usefulness of terms taken from the study of English Language: pre-modifiers; noun clauses; adverbial phrases and so on are frequently identified by candidates as a substitute for literary-critical analysis and this is a practice which must be discouraged’. That was from the 2019 report.

The obvious caveat here is that you can easily succeed quite well if you don't forget the emphasis on literary criticism; however, to be on the safe side and much more secure with your writing, I'd caution against trying to sound ‘fancy’ technical terms in an attempt to somehow amaze the examiner with your knowledge of literary techniques and devices.
