Has anyone studied Queen Elizabeth (Henry VIII's daughter)? If so could you recommend me a book to read about her and her reign please? I have just finished a history degree but have not studied her before. I saw some of the film the other night and am interested in reading about her. There are various books on amazon but I thought someone who knows the topic might be able to tell me the best one. Thanks.

David Starkey's Elizabeth is probably the most well known book on her. Might be worth reading his one on the six wives first. Will give a good overview/background of info for you.

Jane Dunn's Elizabeth and Mary is ok. It's all about the relationship between these two cousins.

Those 3 are off the top of my head, could definately get you some more if you would like. Oh and Blackadder series 2 (I think) is pretty amusing for a portrayal of Elizabeth

For just a brilliant introduction to Elizabeth, I'd recommend Richard Rex's 'Elizabeth: Fortune's *******?'. Rex clearly addresses the key facets of Elizabeth, her reign and it's historiography in a clear and concise way - well worth a read .

Haigh is also worth reading (if you can get the new edition) - very informative, insightful and easy to read. Starkey is too.

This is just from the top of my head!

I hope this is useful - if can be of any more help, let me know
