Im a dental nurse of 6 years experience looking at applying to Portsmouth university for dental hygiene. I unfortunately haven’t got the A levels however I do have the dental nursing higher education certificate which makes up for 140 credits (Portsmouth ask for 120 credits.) These credits are made up of a biomedical science, oral health education, core dental skills and foundation of dental nursing. I also have the required GCSE’s they ask for, aswell as dental nursing experience. Are there any other courses anyone would recommend doing or will this be a strong application to get onto dental hygiene in Portsmouth? Thanks!

I think all your experience will make a smart application for your chosen course (dental hygiene). Is Portsmouth ur only option of uni ? If so, it is a good idea to call the dental hygiene department and talk to them about ur circumstances. If not, why don’t you check out other unis and their requirements for dental hygiene.

Great, thankyou for your advice, I’ll give them a call for more information! I’ve looked into Essex and Liverpool university so hopefully will be enough on my application to be considered there too 😊
