A rather vague thread title.

I'm going to university this September but I will travelling from home. I'm aware that those who stay on university accommodation will have the opportunity to make a lot of friends in their halls and attend a lot of parties.

I was wondering is it still possible to still get a high amount of involvement in university life and friend making by travelling from home?

Yes it is.

Obviously you will have to put in more effort to attend events on campus compared to someone who's living in halls but if you do that then you won't miss out at all.

It's what you make it - if you consciously make sure you go to different things then you'll have no problems making friends and getting involved

Well obviously, it depends how far you live from uni (I'm guessing not far). I had a couple of friends on my course who commuted & they did just fine. It just means trying harder to be more active (i.e. joining societies/going to student nights/mixing with people on your course). In theory, you may have to try harder because you won't have the opportunity to mix with people you live with in accomodation.
