Hi.

I have to write an essay for uni and I am struggling with the structure of it because there is so much to cover. It is a 2500 word essay.

I have to compare how the policy of the British Empire differed over three of its colonies in Africa.

I know which three colonies I am writing about and the general difference between them but I don't know how to structure this. Do I write a bit section about each country/colony and then another big section comparing them? Or do I just try and compare them throughout the essay on different topics like education, language, religion...?

This probably is a stupid question and I can write a history essay lol. I'm just drawing such a blank right now and need a little help.

Thanks x

Have you done all your research? What's your central argument?

I would personally plan via topic and make sure to compare throughout. but TBH you should probably ask your lecturer they probably know exactly what they want.

That there were no cohesive strategy but they learned from experience from each, applying success and failures onto the next colony.

Sounds like you've found your structure.

State that in your introduction and then do each section chronologically all the while carefully analysing the failures and improvements etc.
