So would i be right to say that the book talk about the correlation between political institutions/leaders and a nations growth and success. and it also talks about the poverty the rest of the world faces? This is for an essay I'm writing

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the topic but 'institutions' in a development economics sense has a much more general definition than how it is usually used. Douglass North called them 'the rules of the game'.

This can include laws, religion, cultural norms, economic freedoms, etc. It's difficult to draw a box around the things that are institutions and those that aren't since it really depends on the country/state in question.
