I am literarily living on baked beans and pasta. Are baked beans a good source of protein? I am eating a can a day.

Baked beans are right good for you. Keep on munchin' 'em.
You should probs try to eat something more than just those and pasta though...
Carrots cost barely anything. Get some of those! mmmm crunchy.

Your diet sound fine. In fact you should cut out the pasta as you are only wasting valuable bean eating energy. ;yes;

Haha that made my day. Beans are indeed prone to evolution of a lot of methane.

Actually, going on the issue of farting and beans:

1. Why do farts stink:

The odor of farts comes from small amounts of hydrogen sulfide gas and mercaptans in the mixture. These compounds contain sulfur. Nitrogen-rich compounds such as skatole and indole also add to the stench of farts. The more sulfur-rich your diet, the more sulfides and mercaptans will be produced by the bacteria in your guts, and the more your farts will stink. Foods such as cauliflower, eggs and meat are notorious for producing smelly farts, whereas beans produce large amounts of not particularly stinky farts.

Side notes:
1.Skatole (3-methylindole) is the compound that makes excrement smell. It is also used as a flavouring agent in vanilla ice-cream.
2. Hydrogen sulfide and mercaptants are of the smelliest compounds known to mankind.

I know this cause I am a chemist.

2. Why are beans so notorious for making people fart?
Beans contain sugars that we humans cannot digest. The most offensive sugars, known as "flatulence factors" to scientists who research farts, are raffinose, stachiose, and verbascose. When these sugars reach our intestines, the bacteria go wild, have a big feast, and make lots of gas! Other notorious fart-producing foods include corn, bell peppers, cauliflower, cabbage, milk, bread, eggs, beer, and raisins. People unable to digest milk due to lactose intolerance will suffer extreme flatulence if they consume dairy products.
