Napster last i heard are alive and kicking and are now providing a similar service to itunes.

Most artists/bands are on it, and some have free downloads. Those that don't have links to sites (either download sites or things like Amazon) where you can buy the music. It's also a great site for discovering new music. Oh, and it's legal :p:

Does anyone remember that site that claimed it was going to let people legally download music. It was such a massive hit the first few days it crashed....

One small detail they forgot was that they hadn't actually made a deal with the record companies yet.. so no music.
