Hi

I have just finished my 2nd year of a Maths degree at Newcastle, exam results where good (76%) but am now looking to do a masters in some branch of Statistics

However due to my astronomical student loan already I would like this to be funded, I know that there are lots of institutions that do offer funding for Msc's but I was wondering how likely this is for me - my grades at A level where AAA if that helps

Anyone who has experience or just some general advice would be appreciated

Thanks

John

I've also finished my 2nd year (Warwick maths). You've done really well this year, why don't you change degree course and join the MMath or MMathStat? You'll definitely get funding that way.

If you don't want to/can't do that, I would ask your tutor who probably has a wealth of information to share with you. From what I've heard, it's quite difficult to get funding. Some courses do offer EPSRC funded studentships, even at masters level but they are quite competitive. If you cannot secure any funding for your masters, work during the summer after your finals (possibly as an intern at an investment bank or something of the sort): it's not much but it'll help cover some expenses.

Thanks for the advice - we do have a MMath course in Newcastle and although I could choose alot of stats models I think I would prefer to do a masters solely in Stats. My student loan will be 18000 at the end of the year and I don't really want to add further to that, so it would be nice if someone would pay for a years study

Also it would be nice for a bit of a change in scenery to live somewhere for a year and also go to a more prestigious university, although Newcastle isn't bad

On a slightly differant note what do people think about the worth of a masters degree, does it make you that more employable
