I assume you'll be having interviews with the lovely Prof. Körner and Dr. Tokeida then? You'll certainly find the experience 'interesting.'

I spent most of my interview with Körner wondering if the chair I was sitting on was going to fall apart so I'm afraid I can't be a great help in that respect. Most of the questions he asked were GCSE level knowledge but much harder, so make sure you're comfortable with those sorts of questions. To be honest, my interview with him went really badly and I still got in, so I wouldn't worry too much about it: they seem to place more emphasis on STEP than interviews (be prepared for a 1/1 offer!).

Dr. Tokeida is new this year so I wasn't interviewed by him, but one thing he does seem obsessed in supervisions with is the drawing of pictures to help solve problems. Do this and you should be fine. He's very friendly and may give you tea and cookies!

Hope this helps. Prof. Körner's office is on my staircase so I may bump into you on the 1st.

I don't really want to give away too much about the interview as it would be unfair on everyone else, but I was only asked one general, non-technical question (How have you used maths or physics in everyday life? or something like that if I remember correctly) and the rest of the interview was of the form question, answer, question, answer etc. (By the way, I said the questions can mostly be answered with GCSE knowledge, not that they were GCSE level. They were more 'How do you think?' than 'What do you know?').
I imagine you'll have another interview (with Dr. Bampos possibly?) where all the standard 'Why maths?' rubbish will be done.

As for what type of guy he is, this picture: http://www.dpmms.cam.ac.uk/site2002/Photos/People/korner_tw.jpg may help.

EDIT: For STEP, if you get an offer and you go to a school tha tis unable to provide help with it, you'll probably be invited to a STEP course in Cambridge. I've no idea how useful this is as I didn't go, but they do take into consideration how different STEP is to A-Level.

I've got an interview for Modern and Medieval Languages on 3rd December. It's a lot sooner than I expected, but hey, guess then it'll be over and done with. I'm going to be interviewed by Dr Haywood and Mr Fleming, if that means anything to anyone!
whatever you do don't wear a suit, Korner is known for absolutely hating them, in his own words "if you wear a suit to interview then i'll think you're an idiot" (as i've been told by some of the mathmos here) but they all seem to think hes cool so u shouldnt be too scared!

I had Mr Fleming for one of my natsci interviews last year and to be honest found him very hard to work out, he seemed to just sit there making notes on me while the other person asked questions which was slightly strange, but hes not too bad, but i'm assuming a language interview will be very different to mine so i can't really help much!

yeah but I had Dr. Hollfelder in that interview as well and he seemed to ask most of the questions and Bampos for the other so i guess its not that strange having one non scientist interviewing me (not that I know which subject Dr. Fleming does)
