I am in my second year of BTEC applied science and struggling with unit 22 Chemical Laboratory Techniques. I have to write a report about the synthesis of copper sulphate and am confused about the distinction criteria: 'Explain how the yield, purity and atom economy of the substances prepared may be affected by changes to the methods used'
Can someone please help me for the distinction?
Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Hey there
I think a good way of getting this nailed is to have a good understanding of each of those points.

Yield - often measured in % - this is how much of the desired product is actually produced divided by how much is theoretically produced (x100 for the %).
Purity - this is whether your product is just your product or is it in solution with other materials? Has the reaction gone to completion? Do you have residual reagent left?
Atom economy - is your product the only product of the reaction you are doing? Are there any byproducts? Think about what conditions you are using for your reaction and how environmentally friendly the work-up procedure is etc. as well!

Hope this helps - if you have any further queries, feel free to quote me
