I understand it's to assist people in doing sit ups.

Never seen the point in paying for equipment that you don't need though.

I think its meant to control the situps plane of movement. A smith machine for situps if you will. Big marketing gimmick/fad/quick fix that doesnt work

I think it's to help people who get a sore neck when doing sit ups; to focus to muscle strain on the stomach rather than tensing the neck. *shrug*

I find those contraptions quite useful for when I've already done a few sit-ups the normal way, and I've got to the stage where I can't carry on 'unassisted'. Then you really start to feel the pain. I don't know if it does any good, but it hurts.
