Have you had a look at the 'Personal Statement' section of this website? Its very helpful and there are lots of examples which may be of some use to you.

Firstly, the advice that I am giving is probably flawed and only my opinion. Most of the best help you can get has been gven on this forum many, many times before. Either search for "personal statement" and wade through the responses or visit the relevant wikipages from the portal here: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki...tement_Library.

There are two main things you need to mention in your personal statement:

1. Why you want to do the course
2. Why should they accept you.

The former is essentially explaining your passion for ths subject int he least cliche way possible; this can mention specific things you are interested about, or just a general "I love marketing because I think it's important in a business driven world" (said in a more convincing, precise and less waffly way :P

The latter is explaining why they should accept you. Unless you are applying for a very top notch university, I am sure they are interested in you explaining your passion for journalism, so have a decent sized paragraph on that, but you must explain the links in that paragraph. I know you are struggling with this, but you can add something like "Doing journalism helped me realised what motivates the world: and I can see clearly that it is money which is why I am so interested in marketing." Again, this sentence is a bad and shallow example of the top of my head. You could also include a sentence like "Journalism helped me realise the importance of clear, concise writing and sticking to deadlines, which is not only important in a University course but onwards into the world of finance."

However, the one important thing in all of this is to be concise and specific. The admissions team will see hundreds of personal statements tleling them "I think this subject is so good because it is lke ultimate" or somethng like "I have always wanted to do marketing because I have been interested in the idea of money and trade." Read it through; if anyone could put one of your points in their personal statement it is a wimpy, waffly sentence. The admissions team aren't interested in it. The sentence "Editing my school's magazine has been wonderful experience for understanding emotions, motivations and desires that stem from material posessons: this is what truly has me excited about studying marketing." is very precise and is exactly the sort of thing I would expect "people in the know" to want: but again, disclaimer: I'm just a potential undergrad and my suggestions are based on my UCAS advisor and open days. Take what I say with a pinch of salt

It is a PERSONAL statement. If you can't write it yourself you don't deserve to go to university. I mean come on.....
