I handed my CV in today at Debenhams, and as soon as I came home, I got a phone call telling me that I've got an interview & stuff on Saturday, which she said was quite informal & consisted of both a group thing & a one to one.
Ok, i had the interview last xmas, i didnt get the job but i'll try to help.
You go into a big room full of all the other candidates, you have to introduce yourself to everyone, the interviewers talk about the job, and then they start taking people for one on one interviews. It informal, but i dressed smart anyway, just to stand out a bit, just suit pants and a top.
ermm....tips....be very confidant and talkative, because there lots of other people, you want to impress the interviewer, ask questions if you can, not stupid ones but ones that show intuition, and have a good reason why you want to work there, i remember answering that question realllly badly. Good Luck!

Thanks for that! :] You know how you said you dressed quite smart... were others not dressed up?
^^ I have an interview for the new debenhams in white city tomorrow and have no idea what to expect, the dude on the phone said group interview and then we'd have to sell a product or something in front of everyone (eek). Also have no idea what to wear to it!
I have been working part time (8 Hours) for debenhams for almost 2 years now but i'm sure the recruitment process is still the same as it was when i applied so i will try and give you some hints to make sure you get the job
You will go into the training room with a group of people, there were around 16 people at my assesment day, everybody will be asked to say their name and something interesting about themselves - try and make people laugh if you can! After the ice breaker you will either be asked to choose a product and sell it to the group - i had a pair of pink gloves! Or you will do the group exercise as there were a large number of people there at my assesment day we were split into two groups and given a different scenario and were asked to discuss how we would resolve and overcome the problem we then had to feedback to the group - make sure you contribute to the group discusion both whilst deciding what would be done and when giving feedback to the group. These two exercises could be done either way round.
After the above exercises have been done you will have a one to one interview with either a line manager or a supervisior who will follow a set of questions produced by HR with a standard marking criteria.
When this is done you will be free to go!
During all of this there will be line managers sitting in the room making notes about what you are saying etc. So make sure you sound confident and express yourself well!
Ensure that you take your passport etc. with you if requested as this makes the admin side of things so much easier for the managers.
I wore a suit and was told by the line manager who interviewed me that this had made a positive impression with them and i was told before i left that i would be offered a job, however expect to wait at least a few days as there may be several rounds of interviews. But this doesn't mean that you have to wear a suit just make sure that you are smart - i am presuming that this interview is for debenhams and not one of the concessions within debenhams!

Hope this helps (and sorry for such a long post )

Thanks for all that info! Deffo helped The one thing I'm not too sure about is how to actually sell a product to the group. Do you have to say loads about it? Or just keep it simple & just basically describe the product??

Don't just describe the product, talk as if you are talking directly to a customer - but keep it clear and simple don't ramble on for ages about one thing.
Try and adapt what you say to the particular product and you will be given some time to make some notes - but don't just read from your notes!
I had to sell a pair of pink gloves, things i said included - Pink is the new boys blue so is a suitable gift for a wide variety of audiences - Gives great value for money - An essential item particulary at christmas - Part of our designers at debenhams range - !! I was told that impressed them as i showed that i had understanding of some of the products ranges debenhams stocked
As i said you will have a few minutes to make some notes so shouldn't be thrown in at the deep end, try to think on your feet - and say what the line managers want to hear - if possible mention the exclusivity that the customer is buying into by purchasing a product from the debenhams offering!
I can't really say anymore - and will delete the posts in the next few days so other people aren't disadvantaged in the recruitment process who have not had access to this information
It went really well, thanks! Cheers for all the info you gave We had to do a group exercise by putting job duties in order of relevance, the selling product thing. Thankfully, we got to go out onto the shop floor & choose our own item so it wasn't too bad! We get to hear back in a few days apparently so fingers crossed!
