Business Computing at Brunel University London

Hello, I am currently a 2020 applicant and was planning to apply for Business Computing at Brunel.

I was wondering if anyone else was planning to apply for the course as well or in general anyone else applying to Brunel, would love to hear.

Any current/former students at Brunel, I was just wanted to hear some experiences how you liked it there and any other useful information.

I am looking to study Business Computing at Brunel. I see there is group project, for year 1 and 2. I was wondering how the group project is, is it good, did you like and what the process is and what you did.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,I am currently studying Business Computing at Brunel and I am in my second year!I thoroughly enjoyed my first year as it allowed me to study a varied amount of topics within my modules to give me a clearer idea of what I enjoyed studying/would enjoy doing within a career. The first year group project was tricky to begin with, especially if you're someone like me who has never studied Java before, as this is used in order to help you programme your Finch robot within the group project. The process is that the cohort is divided into coloured groups e.g. yellow1, yellow2, blue1, blue2 etc. From this you're divided even further into smaller mixed groups of 6-7. Within the group project you're given the assessment brief where you're handed a Finch robot and taught how to code using it. The assessment itself splits into 7 different ways you can make your Finch robot move. I personally had the task of navigating my finch to move forward, backward, left, right, and to retrace its steps. Other group members had the tasks of getting the robot to 'dance', go in a zig zag formation, draw shapes etc. My advice would be to ensure that you're attending your labs and engaging with the staff as much as you can in order to ask questions and get the most out of your experience. Also, ensure you're staying on top of your workload, don't fall behind in the group project as you are also tasked with making a portfolio regarding managing your time and planning your Finch project!!!
