“McCarthyism was responsible for moving foreign policy from Europe to Asia”
Am I missing something here, I’m completely lost on this. McCarthy primarily focused on the Mccarythism which was just to stop the spread of communism in the US? I don’t see what impact he had on foreign policy?

Sorry if this is not very helpful ( I don’t think we’re part of the same exam boards )
McCarthy facilitated the rise of the second red scare by overstating the threat of communism . Thus, the public + gov were increasingly concerned about what the spread of communism would mean for the maintenance of American values, freedoms and systems .
- Communism was essentially a threat to the American dream ( that pertained to ideas of working one’s way up in society .eg: Harding , Hoover , Coolidge ) because of the economic policies of distributing wealth in society ( with accordance with the communist manifesto ) . So, the spreading of communism to Asian countries meant there was a seemingly increased possibility of communism taking root in the US .
Therefore, foreign policy changed so that increased fears ( catalysed by McCarthy ) could be sated . This could be seen in Truman’s policy of containment ( Truman doctrine , etc )
Hope all goes well
