I think Kandinsky was really inspired by music. Maybe you could adopt the same process and paint along to some songs you like and see how that influences your work. Do a painting for each song, changing genre and see what happens.

Music is too broad as a theme. That's why you may be having trouble finding artists and famous one at that because the job of an artist on making covers and flyers is to attract attention for the musicians.

You can get away with finding album cover designers, they can be portrayed as artists. Any paintings of anyone doing an orchestra would help if you want to look for those.

we're only just starting our coursework so it's better to start with a broader theme which you can develop and make more specific later - which will gain you more marks for development. i was planning to go into orchestral/classical vs rock later in the project.

i was looking at the artist of queen's 'news of the world' album but as it's quite old there's not a lot on it - same with smaller, more recent bands. i can't win hahah

album cover designers is your best bet. I got a B in art btw and yeah, like you said, you are asking as a starting point. I somewhat went the same route like you did.

Queen's News of the World album cover was from Kelly Freas, American Sci Fi artist. It was originally for a cover called Astounding Science Fiction.

Oh i have it here, it was from Frank Kelly Freas: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/m...t-know-195704/

"10. The album’s cover was painted by noted science-fiction artist Frank Kelly Freas, based on a magazine cover he’d done nearly a quarter century earlier."

Go on, take it. I don't want anything in return. Go on, beef your art skills and knowledge up and all the best getting the best grades in your chosen design.
