Uni options for Bsc Psychology

Hi, I’m currently looking to study Psychology with A*AA predicted which I can achieve so I’m looking at a lot of universities right now.

I’m liking the look of: Bath, Lancaster and Newcastle. Any feedback on these?

Currently unsure about Birmingham (particularly as the student satisfaction rates very low), Loughborough, Nottingham and St.Andrews.

Redirection to any useful threads would be appreciated.

Out of them I applied to St Andrews. Was going to pick Newcastle as it’s such a nice city and I already met the entry requirements which is unusual with English unis for Scottish students.

I applied to St. Andrews, Durham (have conditional), Glasgow (have unconditional) and Edinburgh (my preferred option) all for psychology BSc. St Andrews and Edinburgh generally don’t give Psychology offers until after the deadline as the course is very popular at these unis :frown: Glasgow responded within around a week and Durham took a few weeks.

What do you think about the 3 we have matching? (StA’s, Newcastle and Durham).

Definitely think about UCL, heard a lot of good things about both the course and definitely the college!

Was planning to look into there and Kings next as I’d just disregarded them, thanks.

St Andrews and Durham seem to have better reputation than Newcastle but honestly Newcastle is Russell group so still very good. I think living in Newcastle would be better as it’s a city, St Andrews is too small imo (the reason I’d pick it over Durham is that if I get an offer from StA’s it will be unconditional whereas my Durham one is conditional and I don’t want to risk getting bad accommodation if I have to take my insurance). Durham looks nice but I think there is some class division and I’m not sure if I like the college system yet.

I’d look into the courses if I were u, to see what differs between them, and if u get offers from all, go to the offer holder days as that’s the best way to judge what uni feels right to u.

Hello!
I'm a current student at Lancaster and although I don't study Psychology at uni, some of my closest friends do. One thing that makes Lancaster unique is that you might have to study a minor in first year. I can't remember if it's optional or compulsory for Psychology but if it's compulsory, you get to study another subject (such as criminology, sociology, biology or a language...) for a third of the year, and all you need to do is pass it.
If you have any questions, let me know. I'll be happy to answer!

Thanks, didn’t realise unconditional offers were handed out like that to scottish residents for your uni’s, sweet.

Only if you exceed entry requirements, which many do not. Also it makes it quite difficult for Scottish students who don’t meet requirements to get conditionals as unis here have a limit on how many Scottish/eu students they are allowed to take (as the government doesn’t want to pay too many fees) and unis would rather take people who they know have the grades, and are going on to achieve even more . St. Andrews only take around 25% of their students from Scotland and around 30% of Edinburgh’s students are Scottish I believe (I think English students make up a similar percentage, then the rest are international).
I studied Psychology at St Andrews for a year before moving to UCL so if you have any questions about Psych specifically at these uni's let me know

Well at St Andrews (like most, if not all, Scottish unis) you take 3 subjects in the first 2 years, and then your specialist (in this case Psychology) in the last 2. This makes it a very different uni experience to your typical English uni because obviously you studying a much wider variety of content. The courses at St A and UCL are both very good, as are the uni's in general. I think really what matters most is location, and I much preferred London. I really can't stress enough how small St A is haha. Some people love it, but I found it quite suffocating. I think UCL is the best of both worlds, because you're getting a world class degree in a department that is renowned for it's research globally, and getting to live in one of the world's most vibrant cities

From what I seen Loughborough and York look like good options that I left out. Bristol looks really good I’d definitely want to look into that more, same with Newcastle.
