The KCL Freshers week information will be on the KCLSU website once it is organised:
http://www.kclsu.org/
I also got a booklet thing last year sent to me closer to September about it all. Last year, you could book the tickets on tickermaster in advance and I would advise doing that. Most things were sold out by the time we actually arrived.

Not subject related last year but was split into medsoc and everyone else with the medsoc events usually held at Guy's campus and the others at Tutu's on the Strand. There were though separate freshers events held by the Law Society and Bar Society within the first couple of weeks so they were obviously subject-related!! Society parties tend to be held in various nightclubs around London, usually with quite strict dress codes to get in so be warned :p:

There was pretty much something every night if I remember correctly. There was definitely a badge party (design and wear your own badge!!), Skool Disco (wearing school clothes as you can probably guess) and a boat party (again, rather obviously, you have a party on a boat which travels up and back down the Thames! This was rubbish last year though...everyone was absolutely FREEZING and just wanted to get off after 10 mins and obviously you are stuck! If you do it, wear the biggest coat you can find...stuff the party clothes :p:)
Oh, and the accomadations hold their own stuff as well but they tended to be quite low key. SSA last year went to the Slug and Lettuce down the road on the first night etc.

Does anybody know when the Fresher's week will start?
I suppose at the beginning of September, but the exact day?
Reply 3
15th Sept, aka "Registration Week"
But basically your accomodation contract will start the saturday beforehand to make life easy. As you can imagine there are long queues to buy tickets at the unions monday morning
Well last year move in day was the 15th and the freshers' events didn't actually start until monday the 17th i think.

Ah, thanks.
Is it possible to buy the tickets for the events that Monday morning then, or do I need to buy them in advance in internet?

Also, for the intercollegiates "You are entitled to occupy the Accommodation from the day before the beginning of the academic year of your College"
Is the "official accademic year" starting the 15th of Sept for King's ?

thanks.

Well technically it starts 22nd, but since you need to register in the week of the 15th I would twist it to letting you go in on the 14th..

You can buy in advance or on the monday morning, but there is a chance stuff will be sold out by the time you get to the front of the queue. The boat party sold out pretty fast iirc.

yeah and the boat party was **** after all that effort!

last year there was also a beach party, pajama party, school disco, badge party, 80's night, plus some other random sports/medsoc things I didn't go to.

there will be hour-long queues for freshers tickets, just buy tickets for literally everything online, then if you decide not to go to something you'll have no problem selling your ticket on to someone else.

If you are planning on joining a GKT sports team then get one for the Sports Hop

GAH! STRICT DRESS CODE??

I have nothing to wear. NOTHING!
Reply 10
To what extent is it a strict dress code?

Shirt and shoes, or suit?
Reply 11
Well it depends...

It's the Law and Bar society that tend to have the random dress codes so if you aren't a lawyer, don't worry

Tbh, they aren't all that bad. I just found them really annoying because they were so random and strange and it was kinda awkward to work out what they all meant.

So never fear, once you have worked out what they actually want you to wear it's all pretty straight forward and doesn't usually require you to go and buy something specific!!
Reply 12
Is this dress code as in, "black tie", "smart casual" etc etc? OR rather more obscure than that?
Reply 13
Oh dear...I worry I have started mass panic  :frown:
There really is no need to worry...
Just ignore my previous posts!

(P.S. Smart casual was the dress code for the mock-moot I think and it indeed drive me crazy trying to find something to wear :p: Black tie was the code for the balls I think but the christmas party for the law society was pretty strange. I vaguely remember it involving sparkles/dazzle/glitter or something but the exact wording I don't know!)

And here endeth my panic-inducing posts! :p:

Sorry to sidetrack, but does anyone know what the difference between the orientation on the 15th and the 19th is? KCL's website says one is at the Strand and the other at Waterloo. Also, would it help to go to both?

2 weeks before the lectures officially start... thats how long you get to be an ass at night. I know a lot of people who wasted their term money in the first two weeks.

The campuses are different and I suppose if you're not too good with directions and are tempted to get lost, then both orientations may be helpful.
