Unsworth Park?

Hi! I've just received my offer for chemistry at Manchester and am now looking at different halls. Probably choosing between Unsworth Park or Denmark Road.

I know Unsworth Park is very new, but does anyone know anything about the general vibe or social life there compared to Denmark Rd and if it's worth being homeless for 10 weeks as an intl student (since Denmark Rd offers 52 weeks of accommodation and Unsworth does only 42)? Too broke to fly home cos parents told me to fund my own education.

Other intl students who don't fly home during the holidays (if there are any), what do you do for those 10 weeks????

Denmark Rd is very nice but I've heard there are a lot of intl students: I'm an international student (HK Chinese) and I don't want to move halfway across the world to spend my 4 years with a flat full of Chinese/HK students (I don't have anything against them but I don't want all my friends to all be the same kind of people I could've met at home).

hey, i'm debating between those two places too! Unsworth park is apparently 20 mins walk away whilst denmark road is right next to the uni so maybe denmark road could be more pratical? what puts me off Denmark road is that apparently people who live there are more study orientated and there isn't a good social life.

Hey, im a fresher currently living in unsworth, and my boyfriend is a fresher living in Denmark Road. The social life in denmark road is awful - it pretty much doesn't exist. The unsworth social life is much better (because its on the social fallowfield campus anyway). In terms of travel, denmark road is about a 5 minute walk from the uni, whereas Unsworth is about 10-20 minutes on the bus (depends on if its rush hour or not). Buses are incredibly frequent (every 1-2 minutes) and its around 250 pounds a year to use it.

In terms of the actual flats, the unsworth ones are definitely nicer - they opened this september so I was the first to live in my flat - the bedrooms are much bigger and the kitchens are massive (the kitchen is the main selling point of unsworth over others in my opinion - much more social).

Overall, I have had the best 3 months of my life living in unsworth and I know my bf regrets applying to denmark massively, so i'd recommend unsworth. I have more photos of the flats if you would like them, because the university don't have many photos online - if you want them I can post them

ALSO regarding 42 week contracts, you can apply to stay in the Uni halls over summer if you don't want to or can't afford to go home, so don't worry about that.

Thanks  Pictures would definitely be appreciated! Hopefully I will be allocated Unsworth but it seems you can't rank your accommodation choices when I looked at the online application form unfortunately.

That's what I'm worried about too! Will you apply for both and see which one you are allocated or concentrate your choices in one campus?
Would you be able to post the photos?

hey, I don't think i want to apply at denmark road because of how awful the social life seems to be, but at the same time Unsworth park seems too far for me as I don't think i would want to spend 250 pounds on a bus pass when i would prefer to walk. The Unsworth park accommodation seems really nice tho.
i might start considering places in victoria park such as Burkhardt house as it isn't too far and seems to have a better social life

Hey, I was wondering if we could talk about unsworth accommodation as I am considering putting it down as my main accommodation for my first year in Manchester 2020. However, i'm a bit sceptical on what to go for as there's not much information about unsworth on the Manchester accommodation. Let me know your contact details if you'd prefer to talk over DM. thanks  xxx
Hi, just wondering what the atmosphere is like at Unsworth- is it quiet/party, is it mainly international students? Obviously it looks like the nicest accommodation at Fallowfield but worried it would lack the fun/social side?- would Richmond or Sheavyn be better? thanks so much
Hi, is Unsworth accommodation for Manchester met also?
Is there a way i could ensure i get into Unsworth accommodation!
I know this thread is a bit old now, but I’ve got oak house and am thinking of switching to unsworth, the vibe in oak house looks really good but does unsworth still have a good social life in fallow terms?
