It's creeping the hell out of me, but I'm actually scared of going on Facebook.

I don't know why - whenever I click on it, I just feel extremely depressed (no, I do have quite a few friends), and today, I finally deactivated my account.

Why is this? Is it because I'm insecure? Paranoid? Avoidant?

No idea. :erm: I just get this wierd feeling, where I feel seriously depressed and just, down; every time I see my own picture, or my name on anyone else's wall, I get this deep feeling in the pit of my gut, like the feeling when you're freefalling.

That's odd, I thought it may have been seeing groups of people all happy, everyone being friends, I know that gets to me sometimes!
Perhaps you just shouldn't go on there anymore if it is making you feel like that.

I suppose, but I've noticed that I've become more avoidant and paranoid over the last couple of months - I've turned less social, to the point where I prefer to stay in than go to the park for football or whatever.

Could be to do with the family stuff going on around me atm, but I'm not so sure... I'm not actually affected by it - my parents actually cry about it but I don't - could this be my way of dealing with it?

argh there goes my cover ! :ninja: :woo:

A lot of the time these social networking sites are stupid, people will just add each other randomly to make it look like they have more friends, take 5 billion pictures at one party to make it look like they're some kinda socialising animal. Don't worry about it

Just the thought of facebook now makes me want to physically throw up, because it makes me think about people judging me, I think.

    I'm not even sure.

All Facebook is, is a place where people talk countless pictures of themselves (normally drinking), and post on people's walls - the more wall posts you have, the bigger penis you have; the more albums you have, the tighter your vagina.

And yet... I was indeed, addicted to it... and now... I'm scared of going on it...

Am I just ****ed up in the head?

Not in the slightest. Facebook can be a brilliant social networking tool, but at times it can be creepy, vulgar, judgemental and generally unpleasant.

That's a bit of a stretch, isn't it? These people aren't out to make you feel bad, they just like taking photos and talking to their mates.

Well, have you seen those Compare People and No Mercy applications? While they seem like a bit of fun, the former is basically one big popularity contest, because the popular people are more likely to be voted for over the other person, and the latter is a sort of reverse-popularity contest, as people always vote for the person who isn't a close friend. The results can be quite nasty.

I don't know here, just guessing, but the OP may be insecure about seeing his/her quotes on other people's walls because he has different personalities for mixing with different groups of people. Then its understandable that it worries you if you don't want everyone to see how you act with pther people.

Facebook is a real killer for the two-faced, unless of course you just add all your friends and then keep your profile completely blank and never write on walls etc., but then you may as well not be on it.

Some people from my part of the world think facebook is an american/israeli plot to find out everything about everyone - and then use that information to stay in power.

EDIT: Just want to point out i think that is nonsense.
