In principle it can do, but in practice it's quite unusual. Check out the specific course requirements, because they aren't accepted for some courses. If you have the option to do A levels, they are always the stronger option.

As threeportdrift quite rightly says, many courses will accept a combination of 2 A levels and one Level 3 BTEC but A levels will always put you in a stronger position. Note that for science, a BTEC is not an adequate preparation.
