Simple question really: What is the difference between being "metrosexual" and just being vain?

Because people be paradin' the title about as if it's something to pride themselves on.

Isn't being metrosexual more about being feminine rather than just solely about fashion?

So they'd know how to dress well, what goes well with what etc, and being vain is just being too proud of their looks etc.

So someone who has no fashion sense could be vain as well.

"metrosexual" is a media invention used to pigeonhole men.

I'd say that metrosexuality isn't just related to clothes and someone's appearance, its more to do with rejecting hegemony and not trying to adhere to the accepted view of what it is to be a man or to be masculine. It's not so much being feminine, its more like not being stereotypically male.

So in that sense its not "another way to pigeonhole men" , its men rebelling against being pigeonholed. It's not just relating to fashion but all aspects of life.

I always thought of metrosexual males as fashion lovers, using expensive facial/hair products, superficial and enjoys the gym..hmm I think I got that off Match Maker the TV show though, haha.
