I'm posting this in maths rather than Oxbridge or UoC boards because it seemed more appropriate. Feel free to move if wrong; sorry if so.

I'm planning on applying for the new Computer Science with Mathematics option (basically you do a couple papers from the maths tripos instead of the usual computer science 25% maths option), for which STEP is needed.

Do STEP offers require you to answer questions from specific questions or do they just require a certain grade (terminology?) in each paper? I'm taking AH Mathematics and Applied Maths (Statistics), but I'd probably prefer to answer pure & mechanics questions since statistics is basically new to me this coming year.

Also, are offers usually at S or 1 level or is that a more individual thing?

    Cheers!

There are 13 questions on a STEP paper, 8 pure, 3 mech, 2 stats. You normally need good answers to 4 questions to get a 1 - no restriction on which you choose, you can do 4 pure or 2pure/2mech - whatever you want.

Offers for Maths are 1/1 normally, sometimes 1/2. I don't know about CS though.

If it helps, there's a thread at the top of the forum dedicated to STEP.
