Ok so now, lets keep narrowing down the lions kill or defeat lions list:
POLAR BEARS.
There are about 5 or 6 accounts of lions killing polar bears. These accounts, although they may seem awesome to the normal viewers, they are actually very irrelevant.
You dont have to be a scientist or an expert to know that polar bears live in the freezing ARTIC CIRCLE, WHERE THE TEMPERATURE GOES DOWN TO -60 TO -70. No zoo or circus can remotly even match these temperatures. So, it is a well known basic fact that polar bears in captivity overheat, get sick, weak, and get demented. Proof here:
" In an ideal world there would be no polar bearsin zoos, for if ever there is an animal that doesn’t belong in a zoo it’s the polar bear."
So, as the viewers can see, lions killing polar bears in captivity is pretty irrelevant. Because even though the actual accounts dont say it, they dont have to, because its a GENERAL FACT that polar bears in captivity get overheated, sick, weak and demented.
So now we have narrowed down the lions killing or defeating accounts even more. When we take out of consideration the all those bible accounts, and the polar bear accounts, we have at least 12 accounts that are irrelevant to the debate. All the other accounts from newspapers and normal book accounts are just fine.
Next, here the viewers will see all the accounts of bears either killing or defeating lions. Guess Mr "Sword of Justice" didnt show all these huh? Lmao.
1956: BLACK BEAR KILLS AFRICAN LION. “THE LION WAS INJURED SO BADLY THAT IT HAD TO BE DESTROYED”
Now i will show how bears defeated lions in Rome basically every time.
THIS IS THE BOOK “THE BEAR, HISTORY OF A FALLEN KING” BY AUTHOR MICHEL PASTOUREAU.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: MICHEL PASTOUREAU IS A RENOWNED FRENCH PROFESSOR OF MEDIEVAL HISTORY AND AN EXPERT IN WESTERN SYMBOLOGY.
THIS IS HIS RESUME: (DOES NOT GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS)
Michel Pastoureau (born 17 June 1947) is a French professor of medieval history and an expert in Western symbology.
Since 1983 he has held the Chair of History of Western Symbolism (Chaire d'histoire de la symbolique occidentale) and is a director of studies at the Sorbonne's École pratique des hautes études. He is an academician of the Académie internationale d'héraldique (International Academy of Heraldry) and vice-president of the Société française d'héraldique (French Heraldry Society). When he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lausanne in 1996, he was described as an eminent scholar who has made a radical contribution to several disciplines.
THE LION IS CONSIDERED THE “KING OF THE BEASTS NOW, BUT THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT THE BEAR WAS CONSIDERED THE “ORIGINAL” KING OF THE BEASTS IN EUROPE WAY BEFORE THE LION. THE BEAR WAS THE MOST ADMIRED, FEARED, AND RESPECTED ANIMAL. ALSO, IT HAD THE MOST “CULTS” OF ANY ANIMAL, THE CHURCH FEARED THIS, SO IT WAGED WAR ON THE BEAR. THE CHURCH STARTED THEIR ATTEMPT TO PROCLAIM THE LION AS “KING OF THE BEASTS” ON A SILVER PLATTER BY ABOUT THE CENTURY 1000 AD. LITTLE BY LITTLE, BY THE CENTURY 1200 AD, THEY HAD SUCCEDED, MOST OF EUROPE WAS NOW ACCEPTING THE LION AS THE NEW “
THE OLDEST DISCOVERED STATUE, FASHIONED SOME 15 TO 20 THOUSAND YEARS AGO, IS OF A BEAR. THE LION WAS NOT ALWAYS THE KING. FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE MIDDLE AGES, THE BEAR’S CENTRALITY IN CULTS AND MYTHOLOGIES LEFT TRACES IN EUROPEAN LANGUAGES. LITERATURES, AND LEGENDS FROM THE SLAVIC EAST TO CELTIC BRITAIN. HISTORIAN MICHEL PASTOUREAU CONSIDERS HOW THIS ONCE VENERATED CREATURE WAS DEPOSED BY THE ADVENT OF CHRISTIANITY AND CONTINUED TO SINK LOWER IN THE SYMBOLIC BESTIARY BEFORE RISING AGAIN IN PYRRHIC TRIUMPH AS A POPULAR TOY. THE EARLY CHURCH WAS THREATENED BY PAGAN LEYENDS OF THE BEAR’S POWER AMONG THEM A WIDESPREAD BELIEF THAT MALE BEARS WERE SEXUALLY ATTRACTED TO WOMAN AND WOULD VIOLATE THEM PRODUCING HALF BEAR- HALF HUMAN BEINGS. INVINCIBLE WARRIORS WHO FOUNDED ROYAL LINES. MARKED FOR DEATH BY THE CLERGY, BEARS WERE MASSACRED.
ONCE THE UNDEFEATED CHAMPIONS OF THE ROMAN ARENA, PRIZED IN PRINCELY MENAGERIES, BEARS BECAME ENTERTAINERS IN THE MARKETPLACE, TRAINED TO PERFORM HUMILIATING TRICKS OR MUZZLED AND DEVOURED BY PACKS OF DOGS FOR THE AMUSEMENT OF HUMANS.
THIS IS WHY THE CHURCH WAGED WAR ON THE BEAR AND GAVE THE LION THE TITLE OF “KING OF THE BEASTS”
SAINT AUGUSTINE WHO DELIVERED THE DECISIVE VERDICT AROUND WHICH THE ENTIRE CHRISTIAN SYMBOLISM OF THE ENTIRE ANIMAL WOULD BE CONSTRUCTED FOR SEVERAL CENTURIES “THE BEAR IS THE DEVIL”
THE LION WAS NOT ALWAYS THE KING, THE BEAR PRECEDED HIM FOR SEVERAL MILLENNIA.
WHY A BEAR AND NOT THE LION? TRYING TO LEARN MORE, I WENT BACK HOME, WIDENED MY INVESTIGATION, AND FINALLY ARRIVED AT THE CONVICTION THAT, IN A LARGE PART OF EUROPE, THE BEAR HAD BEEN KING OF THE BEASTS LONG BEFORE THE LION.
The bear was looked at as a creature apart, intermediary between the world of animals and the world of the gods. one encounters similar evidence for no other animal.
THE ROMANS STAGED BATTLES IN THE ARENA BETWEEN BEARS AND BULLS, THE BEARS ALMOST ALWAYS WON. ALSO, A BEAR ALWAYS WON IN SINGLE COMBAT AGAINST A LION OR AGAINST SEVERAL PANTHERS.
ROCK ART. BROWN BEAR AND CAVE BEAR.
the Romans imported lions in large quantities from north Africa or Asia minor, sometimes from even farther, for the circus games.
note: North African lions were Barbary lions.
IN THE CIRCUS ARENA, BEARS WERE PRACTICALLY INVENCIBLE, ESPECIALLY THE GIANT BEARS IMPORTED FROM CALEDONIA (SCOTLAND), DALMATIA, AND THE CARPATHIANS.
as time passed, he had fewer and fewer occasions to demonstrate his strength and superiority over all other animals, in the ancient arena, he triumphed over other wild animals, INCLUDING THE LION, AT LEAST IN SINGLE COMBAT.
Here is a completely different source unrelated to Michel Pastoureau, yet it seems to confirm him.
Original Roman relief of a bear being dominant over a lion. Lower left corner, bear biting a lion thru the mane.
Thats good. Where you from bro? Later on today, i will be posting all the Morphological advantages that bears have over lions. By the way, i dont know why but my posts of bears defeating lions in Rome were deleted, thats weird.

i'm from the uk... why are you so obsessed with bears and lions?
Ok so next, we will take a look at the opinions from animal trainers and hunters favoring bears over big cats.
FRANK BUCK-animal trainer-favoring The grizzly bear over a tiger or a lion at similar weight.
“They would be well matched in weight, the grizzly is much stronger than either a tiger or a lion” but either a tiger or a lion would have to get him in a hurry or lose the decision. And i dont think either could get him in a hurry”
"IT IS SAID BY THOSE WHO KNOW THAT THE GRIZZLY BEAR IS STRONGER, MORE DANGEROUS, AND MORE TERRIBLE FIGHTER THAN ANY ANIMAL, UNLESS IT BE THE ELEPHANT. A FULL GROWN GRIZZLY COULD KILL A TIGER AND A LION IN A FAIR FIGHT.”
AS AL G. BARNES, WHOSE CIRCUS SPECIALIZED IN WILD ANIMAL ACTS, STATED "WITHOUT QUESTION THE POLAR BEARS WERE THE MOST VICIOUS OF ALL BEARS. "IN A FIGHT, A LION OR A TIGER WOULD NOT STAND A CHANCE."
THEODORE ROOSEVELT-PRESIDENT, HUNTER, AND NATURALIST.
"ANY ONE OF THE BIG BEARS WE KILLED ON THE MOUNTAINS WOULD, I SHOULD THINK, HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE SHORT WORK OF EITHER A LION OR A TIGER, FOR THE GRIZZLY IS GREATLY SUPERIOR IN BULK AND MUSCULAR POWER TO EITHER OF THE GREAT CATS"
"When accidents happen, when strange animals are placed together and a fight starts, always try to protect the weaker animal, regardless of his species. You will hear it said that a tiger can kill a lion, or vice versa. In my experience i have seen all theories exploded. Tigers have killed lions, lions have killed polar bears, a small leopard has killed a large tiger. usually a polar bear can kill any of the big cats, but i have seen a lion kill a polar bear", Louis Roth, forty years with jungle killers, page 204-205.
