I haven't seen a thread for 2021 veterinary applicants yet so I thought I'd make one as I have seen a few people messaging on the 2020 thread. This is a place for everyone to ask questions and share experiences about applying to veterinary medicine!

I am doing Biology, Chemistry and Economics A-level and have applied for veterinary medicine this year however I am now considering deferring. I have applied to Bristol, Edinburgh, RVC and Surrey but have also visited a lot of the other UK vet schools (all except Cambridge and Harper/Keele) so if you have any questions about my experience please feel free to ask!

Yay! I have been waiting for this thread!! 
1 maths (7), english language (8), engligh literature (7), biology (9), chemistry (9), physics (6), spanish (6), latin (6), art (9)
2 bio, chem, maths, art (but am planning on dropping one - I just don't know which one yet)
3 I have been working at my riding stables since september and plan to do more work experience this year.
4 Not entirely sure as I haven't visited them yet but I like the sound of Liverpool and Nottingham and maybe Cambridge if my grades are good enough.
I can't wait to start talking to other people wanting to apply to vet school next year, I am the only one in my year at school wanting to apply so it will be nice to hear from other like-minded people

2. Cause I'm from Scotland I'm doing HIghers and the ones I'm doing are; chemistry, physics, maths, geography, human biology (my school doesn't offer higher biology but I emailed the universities and they except human biology instead) I will be doing 3 advanced highers and possibly higher english next year and will probably choose biology, chemistry and maths
3. 2 days equine vet, 1 week kennels and cattery, 1 week lambing, 1 day at an abbatoir, 1 week small animal vet, and I have been doing work experience/working in a mixed animal vets for just over 2 years for 2 days a week. I am planning on going to an aquarium, laboratory, owl centre, dairy farm (if I can find one) and a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre next year.
4. edinburgh, glasgow, possibly harper keele/liverpool/nottingham/cambridge but I will definitely use all my 4 options.
Here are my answers:

How did you manage to get your lambing work experience? I live in London so there are really limited opportunities for farm experience around me.
Also, are you planning on going to all of the open days for the vet schools? I'd love to go and visit as many as possible but some of them are so far away from where I live so I would need to stay somewhere overnight and it just seems so expensive to travel to them all.

and well done in your exams!My parents are friends with someone who's brother runs a farm in the Scottish borders and I did my lambing with them. I have heard other people say that you can look for lambing experience on the national sheep association website and farmers can put adverts up asking for help, some of them require previous experience but some don't so it might be worth a look here's the link; https://www.nationalsheep.org.uk/next-generation/jobs-work-experience/lambing-experience/
I am planning to go to Glasgow and Edinburgh's open days but I am not sure about the rest, I live in the western isles and so its quite far for me to drive to England and pay for somewhere to stay. I'm not sure what universities I want to apply to in England though so maybe I should...

B = German (oops!)
2) I'm currently doing Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Drama, but I'll probably drop one at the end of the year. I also have to do Welsh Bacc (ugh), but at some unis this counts as your third a level, so it might be useful!
3) I've been a bit slow in getting started on work experience, but I've been applying to quite a few places that I'm hoping to hear back from after the Christmas holidays, and I've just been offered an ongoing placement at a small animal practice. I'm worried that I should have more already, but I'm hoping to just get as much as I can from now on. Once I can drive, I'll be able to actually get to places!
4) I'm not dead set on anywhere, but I've got a family friend at Bristol who seems to love it there.

I'm a current Liverpool student. When I applied it was to Liverpool, Bristol, RVC and Surrey and I received offers from all four, however I applied as a graduate, so I don't know much about the reformed A-Levels. Other than that, feel free to ask questions about whatever you like

What does everyone think about Harper&Keele cos obvs we’ll be the 2nd year to go through?!? Is anyone going to the open day on the 21st of March?
I applied to Harper Keele for 2020 entry (I'm am a level resit applicant as I didn't achieve the grades to meet my vet med offer for 2019 entry) and I absolutely love the idea of the new vet school. I got an offer a few days after my interview and I've insured my offer (firmed Liverpool). The whole concept of the new vet school has been well thought out and I was stuck between firming Harper Keele and Liverpool as they both had so many pros for me.
Surrey also do a vet Summer School which my daughter attended which she loved. She has an offer from Surrey. You have to apply and meet certain criteria. Neither me nor my husband attended university so she met the criteria because of that. Another one is low participation neighbourhoods and we met that too as there are a lot of old people where we live.
You can apply on the Surrey website from now until March. It’s totally free and they pay for your travel, food including taking you out to Pizza Express in Guildford and you stay in uni accommodation. There are tours round the campuses and you attend talks and do practice sessions such as suturing including a day where you talk part in MMIs.
My daughter got a real feel for the place and the course and leant such a lot. It also made her a bit less nervous when she interviewed there.

I've just been laying out fresh bedding and I milked cows a few times (they use traditional hand milking methods) and feeding them vegetables. I have learnt a bit of info about the milking procedure but that's about it.

I suspect you have learned more than that - safe handling and how not to get stepped on by a cow, what they eat, what bedding to use and maybe why (Nottingham dairy used both straw and sand for different reasons), what a healthy cow looks like, how they move, how you move them/halter them?, how much milk they can produce at a time, you will start to pick up common terminology, will learn to spot signs of ill health.
