NEXT plc taking the piss just like many other stores - searching for a job

I've been searching for a job for 1 year now. I decided to try and get a job at a local retail store called NEXT. Last christmas I handed in a application form - no response. I decided to try again last wednesday this time there was a confirmed position avaiable for a temporary sales consultant.

I went in I recieved a temporary sales consultant form I filled it out and handed it in the following day in an sealed envelope addressed to the manager.

Today I rang up to ask the manager if he had recieved my application form :

*RING RING*

*Talk to some guy at NEXT HQ - I ask him to direct me to the manager at my local store*

*COLD PLAY - YELLOW PLAYING - ON HOLD*

I get through to the manager I said to him "Hello my names... Did you recieve my application form?" he replies "Ermm er might have done.. Want me to pass you through to the HR manager?"

*HOLD*

"Hello operations manager whos speaking" .. I reply "Hello my names... Did you recieve me application form.... She replys and puts me back on hold "Sorry Im in my lunchbreak right now"

I get put through back to the manager I first spoke to:

"Ermm ar Ok what I will do is write down your name and phone number and if we have any vacancies we will call you"

I give him my details but then I am confused and ask him "I thought there was temporary job going ? It is advertised at the front of the store?"

He replys "No sorry there are no current job"

** THE END**

This is not the first store I have tried to get a job at and failed.

I don't understand its taking the p*ss this I really get the feeling the managers can't be arsed. And give you a form to keep you happy and shred it when they get it.

Welcome to the real world boss..
Lots of people hand in CVs everyday and they won't be able to consider each properly and respond to every single person. If you don't have experience compared to other applicants you probably don't have as much of a chance either.

Yeah retail managers suck  If you really want a job then literally give your CV in in every single shop and place possible. Even if you don't want to work there its still a job and you'll get some experience and will make it easier to find a better job afterwards.

Don't wait to hear from places, just keep looking constantly and when u finally get a reply its good. they don't ring back people to tell them you havn't got it, so if you don't hear you won't of got it. they normally call back within a week.

Yea, i work in a retail store and must say, our managers just accept hundreds of CV's off people and throw them in the bin STRAIGHT AWAY!! They glance at them for 5 seconds, and that only once or twice has something jumped out from the CV, and they have bothered reading it properly.

The only way to apply is the official way, through the companies website on their careers section, or as you did, filling out an application form, but i would have personally gone and handed it to the manager himself.

I must say, when I applied for my job in a retail store, I literally staked out the store for a few days lol!! (It was a small mobile phone store) so yea, id just go in, find out everything about their products on sale, even eavesdrop on how they were selling them....then i went for the face to face interview and the manager recognised me as the guy who kept coming in lol!! I think thats what swung it for me in the end, I had no experience at all, it was my first job, but I suppose it showed dedication or how much i wanted the job!

All I can say is good luck, and dont give up, dont rely heavily on just CVs being sent out, try out some employment agencies if you can.

Lol someone gave me their CV once, I gave it to one of the managers and she was like "Oh no can't be having her, can't even say her bloody name!" How rude lol.

I would say apply online!

I wouldn't bother getting a job with them, they are really good a abusing, and threatening their staff, all the managers stick together while they try to get rid of you for fun................trust me, any excuse to give someone the sack, I know, I was discriminated for having an injury, and was given a disciplinary for it, when I refused to sign the form, they began to threaten me a lot, telling me I wasn't doing enough......while I always went beyond my productivity.

The management there, are a bunch of useless arse kissing ****ers, who will stab you in the back if they knew it would benefit them.

Scum of a company..............To hell with them, I will not be shopping with them ever.
