Having second thoughts about PPE

I applied to PPE at 5 unis in October and have heard back from 2. I really like the course but I'm worried that straight econ would be more beneficial as far as getting into postgrad education and having a successful career. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice that could help??
Thanks

Hi, the PPE course is also highly competitive (most Politicians have this degree), but yes you're right. Economics will open many more doors for you. You could always contact the unis you applied to and ask to switch to Economics (provided you have the required subjects/grades - you'll need maths as an A level, usually at A-A*). This shouldn't be a problem, considering they've already given you an offer for PPE. If not, stick out with PPE - it's still a great course!

Yeah that's what i thought especially because i'd like to work in finance. Thing is I'm not worried so much about getting a job right after my ppe degree but actually getting into a good uni for a master's in econ/finance. Do you think I could do that with ppe?

Why do you want a masters when you haven't even started undergrad? You can work in finance without having a masters degree.

You'll be fine with PPE. You can usually specialise in Econ after finishing the first year on most courses, don't worry about it. By the time you finish, you'll have taken the same core modules as every other person studying economics.

For strong masters courses in econ/ finance you need strong quantitative skills. You need to check if the courses you are applying for allow that. How good are you at maths/ FM A levels?
