Ok so I googled a search term just out of curiosity (it was me trying to know more about causes of bdsm) and i got a warning message by google above the search results that child abse was illegal and to go for a website for help. Has anyone had this before? I suppose what i typed in was very dodgy but Ive never downloaded or viewed anything illegal or even legal. Im a bit worried can google report me for using search terms? Also its made me think I do sometimes view dodgy you tube videos out of curiosity its made me think can you get i trouble for this too? Or are you allowed to search for and watch what you want if its on youtube?

Youtube only have limited control of what is on there and will in time remove anything reported to them as illegal.
Just because its there doesnt mean it is legal.
Never had a warning from google, so maybe your very dodgy viewing may be classed as more serious by the authorities. If it was anything to do with children, then you should seek help.

Thats what im asking how are we to know what is legal/illegal these days with porn being popular surely people go on youtube. Just looked it up google have started to put warning messages on for anything which could resemble pornography, Im not a peadophile don’t worry anyone can search for anything this is my point.

Other people manage it. We have no real idea how dodgy your search was. Take it up with google.
If the act is illegal , then just because it is online doesnt make it a good search choice.

Nope.

Surprised that that flashed up actually. The link between prior abuse and participation in BDSM activities (I assume that's what you were searching about) is well-researched, but is also unproven.

I looked it up apparantly they are displaying warning messages for any suspicious google search terms and are banning porn. To be more specific I was searching whether bdsm/spanking fetish was linked to peadophilia (or if theres a fine line). I don’t know about bdsm and prior abuse but there are lots of youtube videos which could appeal to the bdsm culture yet they are still on.

Uh unless you're talking about DD/LG I don't see how you'd make that connection, but fair enough I guess.

Sex-positive platforms will be prepared to host BDSM discussion. Most BDSM activities are not illegal. (and even in the case that they are, it's due to being unable to consent to things that constitute physical assault) This must apply to YouTube.

If you're receiving BDSM-related suggestions you can just click not interested and eventually they should go away.

I had these warning signs many times when googling really messed up stuff, I mean if it's clear it's just pure curiosity nothing will happen. However if you keep on googling stuff like "ISIS" or "How to make a bomb" and stuff like that numerous times in a row then you might and I say you MIGHT get under the MI5's radar.

As someone who has googled some dodgy stuff in the past, I have never got those messages.... so all I can ask is what the hell did you search?

considering there are youtube videos on how to make a pipe bomb with thousands of views that stay up, I think you'll be fine googling pretty much anything. of course if you do anything and your computer/phone is seized for investigation that sort of search won't help your case.

You never know, if you keep on goggling terrorist related stuff on a daily basis I would assume Google reports this to the relevant authorities.

I really don't think this happens

what'd normally catch people out would be social media/otherwise online activity, I'd presume

Ive just searched what you put and didnt get a warning message. This is what I mean lots of young adults search for stuff out of curiosity, what is actually legal/illegal to search for and watch on youtube etc.

Actually I got that message a few days ago for googling something that had absolutely nothing to do with children, though I can't remember what it was. I was pretty shocked.
