What stage are you at in your learning?

Lactation specifically means the release of milk during pregnancy or in response to feeding an infant. It is not the same thing as prolactin release.

Elevated blood prolactin (hyperprolactinaemia) has multiple causes including prolactinomas, pregnancy, intracranial/pituitary tumours, certain medications, systemic disorders e.g. cirrhosis, hypothyroidism, CKD.

One symptom may be galactorrhoea (not lactation), but there are others too e.g. menstrual disturbances, erectile and sexual dysfunction, gynaecomastia, headaches and visual deficits if associated with a prolactinoma, etc.
