the definition for radioactivity is the random decay of and unstable nucleus by emitting alpha, beta, gamma particles. but im confused because when u 238 emits an alpha particle it forms thoranium 234. and thoranium 234 still isnt stable. so does it keep emitting alpha particles until it becomes stable?

oh i see that makes more sense, that also helped with my confusion in terms of half life. so during the reactivity series the time taken for the isotope to become more stable and half is what the half life is?

Each of those little steps have their own half lives: all different
Half life is the time required to half the amount of original element.
It’s also time need to half the activity:
