Writing Essay

Guys when writing your essays do you introduce articles etc in past or present tense?
Any tense asides from past unless you're describing an experiment you did specifically or a past event. Im not an English professor though

What are you introducing . Type the sentence. I wanna read it

So for example if I’m doing a psychology essay and I want to use a research experiment done by an author of a peer reviewed article...would I say:

Smith’s (2010) study indicates that blablalbla
Or smith’s (2010) study showed that blablabla

In that case use present tense.Smith’s (2010) study indicates/ shows that blah

Im 100% sure this is correct ive written many reports at uni
