I hope that you will be able to justify why you do not want to be a vet. It seems you have done quite a lot of work experience with animals. Just be careful about this point, I would say.

very nice app, i have full confidence that you will get an interview somewhere (providing your PS is also good). as for edinburgh, you're very unlucky to miss the 8 A* point, which would have given you almost full marks for the academics. but hopefully you would compensate with a strong non academic score. you're ukcat is fine (2 people last year from my school got in with scores of 630 and 640, but they had what can only be described as a flawless application). in the end its down to you, if you're determined to go to edinburgh then apply there. try showing your grades and ps to an edinburgh fresher who got an offer for this year...they may be able to evaluate your chances somewhat.

I'd imagine that Edinburgh would be a risk for anyone on this side of the border

Yeah, and of course they denied those rumours, but the number of people that say they have a preference for "their own" is quite overwhelming

Although Scaryhair they say something they, in reality, might not mean it at all. Although they say that they give 'equality' and consider both Scotish and non-scotish applications just on merit, i'm sure that this might not be the case.

Well, if you look at the statistics at my school... We only recommend very able candidates to apply to Edinburgh and we have a 15% success rate.

Our Oxbridge success rate is 28%. Why else would that be the case if Scots didn't have the edge.

I'm sure if your point score is the same (or even close, might I venture) as a Scot, they'd take the Scot.

I know Edinburgh is a VERY good medical school, in fact, I love it. But I'm not risking 1 out of my 4 choices.

Well, the Scottish Parliament has stated that Scots go to Scottish universities for free. It would therefore be stupid for the Parliament to say that if Scots couldn't get into a Scottish university because they're in competition with us lot. I just think it follows logically that they'd prefer Scots.

I'm not trying to scare you, and I'm sure there are plenty of threads about this, and that you've made an informed decision, but I just can't help but feel that we won't get an offer unless we get a score out of 38 very much higher than Scottish people do i.e. top quartile of UKCAT, getting the academic flair point, then very high points for the other bits too. Plus Edinburgh always gets more applicants due to the no-interview thing. I mean, look at Soton :p:

Good luck anyway :hugs:! A lot of people seem to have applied this year from this side of the border, so I'm sure someone will get in!
