    Could you safety pin the underside of the flappy bit to the bit of the belt going around your waist? So the long bit is pinned down, but the safety pin is hidden.

    A black marker then?

    Maybe try pinning it with a pretty brooch? May look good?

    I'm not sure the hairpins/grips would work by the way, but you can always try it on and see?
