If it's NHS, it is free, but if you break it, then you have to pay ÂŁ20 to get another one. So it's probably about ÂŁ20

Oh well, not sure in that case
Dont have one. They;re really really uncomfortable and you cant talk properly while they're in. you cant be taking them in and out to talk. and even if you only waer it at night they can make your breathing funny and again they are so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep. When I want back they saif=d it was too loose and tightened it... that made it worse!!

hmmm im not to fussed bout that, i obviously would prefer to talk and breathe properly, but i really want my teeth fixed and im sure the retainer is the cheapest, im looking at spending under ÂŁ350, what are my chances?
Talk through you options with your dentist/orthodontist. I felt the same about my teeth but then I found the retainer was absolute torture and you have to have it for at least 4 months depending on what needs fixing. I really wouldn't recommend it.

I got told it all was rather expensive (ÂŁ2k+ rings a bell), when I went to my new dentist. That may have been because my teeth went back because of not wearing the retainer (it didn't fit properly and broke a bit, dammit! plus I was 13, who cares about teeth and stuff at age 13? stupid old dentist grmbl...).

So, it might be expensive, it might not. If you're not totally committed, and ready to put up with annoyance, a totally cut-up mouth and amazing pain, then I'd think seriously before getting it.

im ready for pain and annoyance to the most harsh level to get my teeth fixed lol, however im not prepared to pay over ÂŁ400 lol

I was told it would cost ÂŁ120 for a replacement when I was 14/15/16, I think it depends upon the severity or complexity of the retainer. If it is merely keeping your mouth in the same shape after work it shouldn't cost a lot of money.

Ermm, I had a retainer followed by "proper" fixed braces, and the bill came to aprox ÂŁ2700
(erm, my parents paid rather than me though )....

would say don't bother unless you're totally committed to the pain etc, my sister didnt wear her removable one and my parents had to pay an extra ÂŁ500 for hers.... (on top of the original amount for hers, which was the same as mine if you see what i mean..)

I had a permanent [well, lasts for 10 years] brace fitted behind my teeth after my traintracks were removed, because my teeth started to move back.

It was around ÂŁ2,000. But, it depends what you need, how bad your teeth are etc.
Mine cannot be seen unless you look behind my teeth.

I had one of those on the bottom, but it half came off a year or two after being fitted, and is fully off now. My teeth are pretty much as bad now as they were before all the 'treatment' and pain!

I'll not return to this thread now, sorry OP.

I actually just got my retainer today because I had my braces taken off yesterday, and they told me if I lost it it would cost about ÂŁ60 to replace

It's called Invisalign, my sister is getting one because her teeth have moved after 10 years since her fixed brace was removed. It costs around ÂŁ3,000-4000.
I broke my plastic retainer as its worn out, I want the metal one as I think it'll keep my teeth in better shape because with the plastic one my teeth stuck out a lot of I didn't wear it, how much is it to buy a metal retainer?
I'm having invisalign currently, and It cost me ÂŁ2,000. It depends how bad your teeth are/how long you need the brace on
Ive got a spare 1 downstairs :P which i never used
How much for a retainer when you've not had braces before, my teeth need pushing forward a lot
