Our primary school song had a chorus like "and the trees of the fields will clap their hands", something along those lines anyway...wtf

We sang that one it started like "You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace , and the the mountains and the hills will break forth before you , there'll be shouts of joy and the trees of the fields will clap their hands".

That one got banned in our school because everyone used to make fun of a girl called Joy when we sang it.

    seriously.
I am SO glad I made this thread.

It is making me wanna cry - all those AMAZING memories.
of how stupidly hysterical it was to put silly words in and we'd laugh about it for weeks.

    and infact
    im still laughing now!

AT THE NAME OF JESUSSSS EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW!
im glad you made this thread too, its made me smile!

ahha we are all incredibly sad, but oh the memories "back in the day" haha to make us sound old!

then we got a new music teacher and we did songs like "reach for the stars..." instead of hymns haha the old teachers were shocked.

if i hadnt used my rep i would rep you! maybe tomorrow.. oh it is almost tomorrow haha. sorry :woo:

    The main ones...

Primary school was 'Shine Jesus Shine', but we had many hundreds we used to sing regularly.
Secondary school was 'Jerusalem', and our school song of course

    Also...

"Have you seen the old man, in the closed-down market
kicking up the papers, with his worn-out shoes?
In his eyes you'd see no pride, hand held loosely by his side
yesterday's papers, telling yesterday's news"... etc.

Don't really know how that one ended up being an assembly song...

"let me take you by the hand and lead you through the *sharp breath* Streets of london"

    I was cold,
    I was naked,
    Were you there?
    Were you there?
    I was cold,
    I was naked,
    Were you there?

Oh, how we giggled. I still think it's odd.

Maybe if I remember the rest of the song I'd understand the context, but at the moment it just sounds like it's about rape.
I was cold, I was naked
Were you there, were you there?
I was cold, I was naked
    Were you there?

And the creed and the colour
    And the name won’t matter
    Were you there?

    When I needed a shelter
Were you there, were you there?
    When I needed a shelter
    Were you there?

And the creed and the colour
    And the name won’t matter
    Were you there?

    When I needed a healer
Were you there, were you there?
    When I needed a healer
    Were you there?

And the creed and the colour
    And the name won’t matter
    Were you there?

    Wherever you travel
I’ll be there, I’ll be there.
    Wherever you travel
    I’ll be there.

And the creed and the colour
    And the name won’t matter
    I’ll be there.

I also remember one christmas in high school the entire school had to sing chris de burgh a spaceman came travelling. No one said a word for the entire song except for in the corus when it goes LA LA LA. Singing in whole school assembly's only happened that year and was banned the next haha.

You shall go out with joy - and be led forth with peace

and it got FAASTER AND FAAAASTER
Yeah! We started off real quiet and got louder and louder, and added claps and footstomps in.
The only time we were allowed to sing it was on Friday afternoon as a treat, because we all got so hyped up by it. :p:

Ah... used to love this, simply because all the rebels would sing "King of Kings" in the last line, instead of just "King". Gosh... we were amused by simple things back then...

Kids are so predictable, they used to do that at my school as well, accidentally on purpose and feign surprise when when they "realised". Same thing happened with with "good tidings we bring for you and your kin" with people accidentally on purpose saying kings instead of kin.

Well, now instead of being a song about rape, it's a song about stalking and rape?

This one was great, because one side of the hall did the "Allelu"s and one side did the "Praise ye the Lord"s, and you had to stand up when you were singing, and sit down when you weren't. It was such fun!

I remember re-writing the words to "cross over the road" when I was in year four

Cross over the road my friend
there's a car coming round the bend
    your life's about to end
    cross over the road

    Good times

    Shalom Shalom,
    May peace be with you,
    Throughout your day.

    In all that you do,
    May peace be with you,
    Shalom...Shalom.

Again, not sure about the exact wording. :ninja:
