Has anyone here applied for/ doing live and technical events degree?

I saw this course and it something I might be interested in, (although when I try and load it on the ntu website it says page not found so not sure if this course is still available) but that aside is anyone doing this course can they tell me what it’s like? Haven’t seen any mention of it on here , and has anyone applied for it ? Maybe you can tell me if the course hasn’t been stopped. Thanks!

Hey , I am no longer going to be doing this course but I was considering it and went to a few open days , the one at ntu being one of them so I sort of have an idea of what you’d be doing more or less. Basically the first year they introduce you to all the basics in lighting, sound, video projection etc and from then on you get to slowly specialise in the area that interests you most. The course at ntu is really based around the technicians role so you’d also be doing quite a bit of electrics and learning how to fix equipment if they mess up. When I went to the open day I loved it, the teachers were really nice and down to earth but also had a lot of experience and I loved the building where you’d be spending most time in, it’s really modern and has really good equipment. You get to assist on some live events and I think in the second year they get you to set up a whole stage with your peers at a real festival (don’t quote me on that because I can’t remember what year haha). I think if you’re interested in the technical role then it seemed like a really good course and it is still running from what I know- I have the course leaders email so if you’d like it let me know and I’ll send it to you. Hope this helped , let me know if you have any questions xx

Wow. Thanks for the help! I was worried the course wouldn't be great as it is quite niche but the way you have described it sounds exactly what I'm looking for, plus being in Nottingham I can pursue music and gig on the side hopefully. I emailed them a while ago but the page for the course is back up now so they still run the course. Again, thanks alot for the help!

Hey! No worries, glad I could help. Honestly I loved it there and because they’re connected to ntu it means you still have the benefits of being part of a big uni which a lot of the other live events courses don’t offer. So so good that you want to be involved in the music industry because that is the main area they focus on, all the teachers are still in the industry and sometimes take on students to work with them. Sorry I’m just rambling now but again glad I could help, good luck and enjoy xx
