Magnalium is an alloy whereas aluminium is a metal. A metal has identical atoms arranged in regular layers. Therefore, the layers slide over each other easily, but alloys are harder because the atoms of the mixed metals are different sized, which makes the atomic layers less regular, therefore they can’t slide easily.
