What was the best book you've read last decade?

For me it was close tie between Angels Fury by Bryony Pierce and Animal Farm by George Orwell :gthumb:

What about you?

Vanity fair by William Thackeray

Best book ever.

My fave quote

Vanity fair - where everyone’s striving for what’s not worth the having

Don't know why everyone thought a book about talking animals was so important

Animal farm was my elder son’s fave English language book along with 1984. Really harrys I think you are pretending not to like animal farm...

Talking of 1984 my younger son went to the island of Jura and saw the extremely remote house where Orwell wrote 1984. No wonder it was a bleak book

Non-fiction - Factfulness by Hans Rosling. Go read it.
Fiction - The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy perhaps. Actually very hard to decide because before the decade started I hadn't really read any famous books.

Other favourites from the decade:
Spoiler:
Show

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. D!ck
A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. D!ck (this book is a complete mindf**k)
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Did it for English Literature GCSE, good book.
The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, aged 13 3/4 by Sue Townsend
1984 by George Orwell
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller (a very close second)

I first read it before knowing anything about Russian history. During GCSEs everything fell into place...

I read Flowers for Algernon over the summer. That was a pretty good book, really interesting concept/plot.

About a mentally disabled guy who has a special surgery which makes him progressively smarter. The book is in the format of a diary/progress report. I recommend it! 👌🏻
