Never heard of it but working at a summer camp sounds like fun to me.

Tom
I went there when I was 12, it was pretty eventful. I saw the ads for working there when I was looking for part-times.
ooo i've seen adverts -and considered applying myself - but how long did the application proccess take you -as in how long ago did you apply?
good luck i'm sure u'll be fine! :P:smile:

answers in the summer job thread at the top.
Started training today, the people are nice. Im the only arts instructor there though so its going to be really tough, there will be times when no ones there to help me and I am questioning myself whether I will be able to cope.

If anyone got their 'contract terminated' through no fault of their own after being told they had a job with camp beaumont then you can claim compensation despite what their supposed contract says. I had my contract terminated one week prior to the start of my employment because they did not get enough bookings. I showed the contract, that claims that they can do this without compensation, to a lawyer and it contradicts UK employment law. As a result, I wrote a letter and am now recieveing compensation. If anyone is in a similair position then i would be very happy to help them obtain compensation by sending you a copy of the letter i sent to them, written by the lawyer. Camp beaumont take advantage of students. After being so poorly treated by them i have taken it upon myself to spread the word in case there are other people who found themselves in a similair situation. Also ive spoken to people who worked there this summer who i met on the training day and apparently they are slave drivers. All the group leaders have to work a few hours a day longer than in the contract but you do not get paid for the extra hours. Im sure the social side of working at camp is fun but they pay poorly and treat staff very badly.

Id be careful with that statement.

An employee has no rights for unfair dismissal with under 12 months employment. You may have got lucky and they gave in to you, but as such, your lawyer is incorrect and you had no right to any such compensation.

Hey sorry to renew this thread but I am looking at the group leader position and I was wondering if you could tell me a bit about it? I haven't looked into it massively yet but it looks fun, though I've heard from people (and someone in this thread) that it's ridiculously hard work and barely pays anything? Positive or negative feedback would be fab... please

Hey, well it was a while ago now and it was only for a couple of weeks. I found it quite hard though as they usually give you vminimal supplies to entertain the kids with an they are fairly long hours and you are basically paid about £2 an hour. But from what I heard things improved a little bit last year so dunno
